Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp could sort out his sideâs defensive issues with a move for Mats Hummels, according to former West Ham player Alvin Martin.
The German has now officially been unveiled as the Redsâ new head coach, ending almost a week of intense speculation following Brendan Rodgersâ sacking on Sunday.
Klopp, 48, has been out of work since leaving Dortmund in May after helping the yellow-clad side to rise up the Bundesliga table and beat Bayern Munich to the title in both 2011 and 2012, despite having a significantly smaller budget than the Bavarians.

In this spell he nurtured talented players who are now considered to be world stars, with German World Cup winner Hummels widely seen as one of the best BVB have to offer.
And even though the January transfer window is some way off and Liverpool cannot offer the defender Champions League football, Martin feels Klopp should make a move for his former star:
âThe first thing heâs got to do is sort that defence out.â He told talkSPORT (via HITC)
âHeâs got to get more out of these [current] defenders, or heâs got to go out and buy. I believe he will have to go out and buy.
âIf you got a Hummels in, somebody that is a top class centre-half, that would give them the springboard for the consistency that theyâve been lacking.â
Liverpoolâs defence has been a source of concern for some time and, arguably, cost them the Premier League title in 2013/14 after being breached 50 times.
