Liverpool Legend Steve Nicol has insisted that it would be a mistake for his former club to make a move for Darren Bent in January.

The 50 year old believes that Brendan Rodgers should seek to find other targets in the next transfer window and that the England international doesn’t possess the qualities needed to succeed at Anfield.

Bent has managed to score over 100 Premier League goals and it has been thought that Liverpool have been casting their eye over the 28 year old.

It has been mooted that Paul Lambert may even consider a loan switch with Darren Bent currently out of the picture at Villa Park for the foreseeable future.

Nicol spoke to talkSPORT saying:  "I don't think he will suit Liverpool.

"Darren’s a little one-sided for me. He’s not a guy who gets involved in the play and I think the way Brendan has it set up, with the three guys up front, he wants them all involved.

"Darren’s a guy who you get the ball in the box to and, because of the quality and knack he has of scoring goals, he will get on the end of it. But I don't think he will suit Liverpool."

Bent was left out of the Villa squad for the second game in succession last night as his teammate Christian Benteke continued to prosper, scoring the crucial winner against Reading in a 1-0 victory at Villa Park.

Rodgers will cast his priorities though to tonight’s clash against Tottenham at White Hart Lane.
