Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling has rejected claims that he is demanding a bumper contract to stay with the club.

The 17-year-old winger has been an ever present for the Reds in the Premier League this term, taking full advantage of the club’s lack of depth and turning in some top drawer performances.

The Anfield outfit are believed to be keen to extend his contract with the club and hand him a pay rise which would see his weekly earnings rocket from £2,000 to £20,000-per-week.

However, reports have been circulating that the Jamaican-born attacker is seeking a figure believed to be more than double that of which the club are looking to offer, which has alerted the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea.

However, Sterling took to Twitter to distance himself from these stories, claiming that discussions have not taken place:

“I have just woken up to this rubbish but I can assure you I’ve not asked for that stupid amount. We’re waiting till I’m 18 to sign.” He said on his personal account.

The tweet was quickly deleted, but it still reached a wide audience.

Sterling will be 18 next month and it looks as if negotiations could start shortly.

England boss Roy Hodgson has called up the winger for this week’s friendly against Sweden, during which he could earn his first senior cap.
