Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has already made it clear he’ll be as active as possible in the current transfer window. His pursuit of FC Basel’s Mohamed Salah is well known, and the Anfield gaffer is also expected to make depth-providing additions to his strikeforce and midfield.
Many will be expecting the Ulsterman to follow up on last year’s January escapades, where he secured the services of Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho for a combined £20million.
But as every Premier League manager is fully aware of by now, the winter window is filled with booby traps, overpriced and overhyped acquisitions and the kind of bottom of the bargain bucket calibre of player that other clubs are trying to get off the wage bill.
So with that in mind, we’ve come up with a list of the SIX targets on the Reds’ January radar that will never live up to expectations on Merseyside and should therefore be avoided by Brendan Rodgers at all costs.
