To sum up Liverpool’s transfer activities from last summer in a nutshell; there was a lot of tents, some very snazzy and well-priced tents, but no genuine marquee. Their efforts in the January window shared a similar fate, with Mohamed Salah rejecting a move to Anfield in favour of a Chelsea switch and the Reds’ late attempts to sign for Dnipro’s Yenhev Konoplyanka ending in failure.

With it now being three transfer windows in a row Brendan Rodgers has failed to secure a single signing at a cost of more than £20million, landing a marquee acquisition is now a must for the Liverpool manager in the summer. He’ll be hoping the Premier League’s side gained momentum this season, and their likely Champions League qualification, can make the difference for the Merseysiders in their transfer pursuits.

Just in case the Ulsterman is short of ideas, here’s a list of SIX marquee signings that would make Liverpool’s summer.

I don’t see why this desperate need of fans to spend big all the time, A marquee is only a marquee because the media (you) hype them up to be so.. I’d much rather spend £20m and get Sturridge and Couthino… They are surely “marquee”…
Brendan Rodgers has done some amazing work at Liverpool with what he has, and he doesn’t need to justify himself to us with frivolous spending. Spending to placate the fans is what got LFC in the trouble they were in…….
