Southampton captain Adam Lallana is prepared to push through his dream move to Liverpool once he has returned from the World Cup, according to reports from the Liverpool Echo.

The silky playmaker was expected to complete a big money move to Anfield prior to jetting off to Brazil with England, but the situation has remained up in the air while he’s been at the tournament.

Southampton rejected the Reds’ ‘take it or leave it’ £25m offer as they look to get closer to £30m for their man, which has led to talk that the Merseysiders will look elsewhere.

But Lallana himself is desperate to follow Rickie Lambert to Liverpool, and will plead with the Hampshire outfit when he gets back from the World Cup – which will be sooner than expected given the Three Lions’ abject showings – to be free to move.

However the 26-year-old is reluctant to hand in an official transfer request, which may be what is needed to force Southampton’s hand.

Much of the problem with the fee is said to centre around a clause that will see 25% of the cash go to Bournemouth, where the midfielder started his career.
