In case you were in need of evidence of Liverpool’s quality to clinch fourth spot this season, just look at the sensational campaign Luis Suarez is currently enjoying.
We always knew the Uruguayan was a special talent, last season fuelling the Reds’ seventh place finish after an incredibly poor start to Brendan Rodgers’ reign with 23 goals.
But the Kop Icon has far surpassed those expectations this year. He’s claimed 23 goals and seven assists in just 19 appearances, leaving him as the Premier League’s top scorer, despite missing the first portion of the season through suspension.
With that kind of firepower, in addition to 14 goals in 14 starts Daniel Sturridge, the Reds are a shoe in for fourth spot – only Manchester City have outscored them this season.
Admittedly, Suarez’s talismanic performances alone won’t be enough to see Liverpool qualify for the Champions League. But it’s a fantastic, incredibly consistent starting block to build from, and the 27 year-old’s displays have also lifted the performances of his team-mates this season.
Having signed a new contract in January and managed to stay out of trouble for over six months, Suarez looks set to finish the current campaign in incredible style and perhaps his best form yet in the Premier League.
