As good as Liverpool can be at attacking, they can be just as bad at defending.

The opening two fixtures of the new Premier League season have painted a familiar picture for Reds fans.

In their first game against Arsenal the men from Anfield soared into a 4-1 lead at the Emirates - papering over the cracks of a shocking Alberto Moreno performance - before the rest of the defence joined him in losing their bearings to ensure a nervy finish as the Reds scraped a 4-3 win.

Then, at Burnley, the team had 80% possession and a number of shots but still managed to lose .

It's a familiar story that the team seem to have had following them around for some time and if they don't shake it off soon they won't be winning much.

The Reds clearly need new defenders and here at FootballFanCast we think this THREE are worth a look...

Fabio Coentrao

Real Madrid v Bayern Munich - UEFA Champions League Semi Final First Leg

Jurgen Klopp must be looking for new left backs - it simply wouldn't make sense if he wasn't.

Moreno is always going to have a mistake in him whilst letting Jon Flanagan leave on loan is rather baffling.

If the Reds try and use James Milner as their first choice left back they're asking for trouble simply because as versatile a player Milner is, he's never properly played there before.

It's a complete mess and Fabio Coentrao would certainly clean it up.

Jetro Willems

Willems

Willems is one of the many promising Dutch players coming through and he'll certainly be around for years to come.

It's only a matter of time before the young left back leaves the Eredivisie for one of Europe's biggest leagues so Liverpool had better act quickly.

He's got the potential to be their first choice for the foreseeable future they just need to sign him up fast.

Mateo Musacchio

MusacchioVillarreal

The Argentine is one of the best players in La Liga outside of the big three teams, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

The Villarreal centre-half is a classy defender and at the age of 25, he is entering his prime meaning he'd be straight into a fight for contention in the Reds team.

He's been ever present for Villarreal so would cost a premium but if it stopped Liverpool leaking goals he'd be worth every penny.
