Liverpool’s hopes of signing Wesley Sneijder have ended, with news that the midfielder is close to officially signing for Galatasaray.
However, he will join the Turkish giants soon, according to a statement on their official website:
“The transfer of Wesley Sneijder from Inter Milan has been agreed.
“The conditions of the deal will be made public and the player will sign the contract after health checks.”
Sneijder had fallen out of favour with Inter, following a contractual dispute.
The Italian giants were reportedly keen to reduce his wages, believed to be in the region of £200,000-per-week, but the player was unwilling.
This led to him being axed from first-team duties in September, circumstances which have not changed since.
Galatasaray had a €10m approach accepted, but it was speculated that the player himself was against moving to Istanbul.
Liverpool were heavily mooted as an option, but a move for the experienced man was seen to contradict their transfer plans.
The Merseysiders were believed to be keen on a six-month loan deal for Sneijder, with a view to a permanent switch during the summer.
However, Inter were said to be in favour of an immediate move for the Dutch international.
