The Senegal international has long been thought of as a top Premier League midfielder after enjoying a successful spell with Wigan before joining the Hammers in 2012.
Prior to his switch to Upton Park, there were claims that a deal to take him to Anfield had been all but finalised, but the transfer fell through when Kenny Dalglish was sacked by the Merseysiders.
But Diame still thinks that Liverpool are interested in him two years later, and says that he is hoping to move to a bigger club than West Ham in the not too distant future:
“Two years ago [before joining West Ham] I wanted to join a team with ambitions,’ said Diame.” He Is quoted by The Metro.
“Overall, my season has been okay, although I think it is not up to last season. I started badly, but gradually I got my bearings.
“Liverpool? I can’t tell you if I will be a Liverpool player next season. But I think my name is still on their wanted list.
“I don’t hide it, I’m ambitious and I want to join a top-six side. I am 26 years old and it’s time to take that step.”
Diame has also been linked with a number of other top English clubs, including Arsenal.
The versatile midfielder has often been lauded for his imposing physical presence and attacking intent.
