Manchester United have agreed on personal terms in a stunning £160,000-a-week deal for Luke Shaw, making him the highest paid teenager in world football, Goal.com reports.
Chelsea were looking to make a last ditch effort to sign the Southampton star, but have pulled out of the race after hearing about Man United’s £8million-a-year offer.
The Red Devils made a massive £27million bid for the defender last month which was close to being accepted, but the Saints are unwilling to let go of their star players until a new manager has been appointed.
Mauricio Pochettino left Southampton for Tottenham Hotspur, halting all transfers out of Saint Mary’s Stadium.
However Shaw, 18, has already made it clear of his intentions to leave Southampton and is set to become Louis van Gaal’s first big summer signing.
The deal is a warning sign that the Glazer family will go to great lengths in order to make United again one of the most feared teams in Europe.
But Shaw won’t be a guaranteed starter for the Red Devils, with Patrice Evra currently the number-one United left back.
Shaw is also expected to play second-fiddle to Leighton Baines at this summer’s World Cup, with the Three Lion’s first game coming this Saturday against Italy.
