Manchester United and Chelsea’s hopes of landing Edinson Cavani before the transfer window closes look slim, with the player having suggested that he will be staying at Paris Saint-Germain.

The prolific striker has been heavily linked with a move away from the Parc des Princes after just one year there in recent months, alerting a host of big clubs.

Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal have all been tentatively linked with the 27-year-old, but interest from Chelsea and United is thought to be the strongest.

Both clubs have been tracking the classy forward, and had been boosted by claims that his agent had been instructed to find him a Premier League team ahead of the 2014/15 campaign.

But now Cavani has hinted that he’s ready to stay at PSG:

“I am at Paris, I think I will stay here, but you never know with the transfer window.” He is quoted by the Daily Star.

Cavani is thought to be angered at his role on the left flank for the Parisians, but he has revealed that boss Laurent Blanc may be altering his tactics to get the best from him:

“There was a discussion with Laurent Blanc before the end of the season and I think there will be a new tactical scheme this season.”
