In Manchester United's dominant 4-1 victory over Fenerbahce in the Europa League last night numerous players caught the eye, but one man's performance led to a wealth of demands that he keeps his place in the Red Devils' line-up for the crucial clash with Chelsea this weekend.

Veteran midfielder Michael Carrick was at his best in the victory over the Turkish side, but has played a bit-part role in the Manchester United XI since Jose Mourinho took charge this summer, with the signing of Paul Pogba adding increased competition for a spot.

Following a superb performance last night, though, fans, former players and pundits are demanding the England international retains his place for this Sunday's Premier League clash with Chelsea - where a victory would put Mourinho's men right back in the hunt for a top four finish.

Whether Mourinho listens to the fans' demands remains to be seen, but the supporters will be hoping for a better overall performance than they saw in Monday evening's drab 0-0 draw with Liverpool at Anfield, where the Portuguese side set his team up for a draw and was happy with a share of the points.

That result may not be good enough against his former employers this weekend, though, as it could see them move seven points off the top of the table, and Twitter is convinced the Red Devils would be better with Carrick in the side...
