Everton are lining up a surprise move for Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley, according to the Daily Star.

The 24-year-old has been the subject of huge criticism by United fans this season following a disappointing campaign under David Moyes.

A £6million move to Goodison Park was rumoured to be on the cards just last month and with Luis van Gaal’s imminent appointment, his Old Trafford days could be numbered.

Cleverley was named as a standby in Roy Hodgson’s squad for this summer’s World Cup in Brazil and, should he get an unexpected call-up, he could be representing the Three Lions as a Toffee if Roberto Martinez acts quickly.

But Everton may face competition from a number of other Premier League clubs who are reported to be interested in the midfielder, including Aston Villa, Hull City and Stoke City.

Please let this happen. He has not worked at United and Martinez will know how to use him. Good business for both sides.

How is a story 5 or 6 weeks old a big shock?
