When Pep Guardiola was announced as Manuel Pellegrini’s official successor in the Manchester City dug-out for the 2016/17 campaign, it became obvious that the Etihad faithful would suddenly see their side linked with a whole manner of new transfer targets from across some Europe's strongest and most elite sides.

Although such a notion wouldn’t necessarily arrive in completely alien fashion for those City fans who have now grown accustomed to their side splashing the cash with almost every passing transfer window, Pep Guardiola’s upcoming inclusion at the Etihad will likely boost the club’s overall pulling-power quite significantly when all is said and done.

In light of such a notion, Manchester City have subsequently seen their name linked with several current Barcelona and Bayern Munich stars in recent weeks, with former Liverpool striker and Uruguayan international – Luis Suarez – reportedly being singled out as a major summer transfer target for Guardiola’s new Premier League outfit.

So then, could the notorious South American front-man really be on the verge of completing a dramatic return among the English top-flight sooner rather than later, or does this particular transfer story simply feel somewhat unrealistic in the cold light of day?

Well, as Manchester City don’t exactly find themselves strapped for cash behind the scenes at the Etihad these days, surely Pep Guardiola’s new club could theoretically tempt Luis Suarez and Barcelona from a financial point of view this summer.

Every player operating within the modern era has their price after all, regardless of how attached the former Anfield favourite may currently be towards the riches on offer at the Nou Camp. City have already tempted their new manager to up sticks from the German Bundesliga with Bayern Munich of course – and although the high profile capture of one of Barcelona’s standout players does in-fact seem rather unlikely on the surface, such a notion wouldn’t be entirely impossible with all things considered.

Luis Suarez himself would fit in comfortably within the current ranks down at the Etihad of course, and would seemingly take to the Premier League in explosive style – much like he did for Liverpool first time around.

Manchester City could very well be on the verge of beginning a whole new era of success with Pep Guardiola firmly at the helm, and if the Premier League club can eventually turn their bold transfer schemes into something more tangible this summer, perhaps we’ll soon witness a club capable of overtaking the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in the long run…

However, although several top class players will likely be interested in working under a manager as widely admired as Pep Guardiola next season, the prospect of Luis Suarez turning out in Manchester City colours as early as next season, ultimately feels somewhat premature for the 2016/17 campaign.

Let’s face it – he currently operates for a team that arguably represent the best and most desirable side to play for in the whole of world football. Barcelona are not only a dominant force within the Spanish domestic sphere, but they have also witnessed a great deal of success at their club when it comes to doing the business among the Champions League as well – something the Etihad faithful are famously yet to enjoy.

Suarez is already playing alongside the likes of Neymar and Lionel Messi at the Nou Camp right in the here and now – and whilst Manchester City do in-fact play host to several world class assets among their current ranks at the Etihad – Barcelona simply must go down as a superior step above any hopeful English team that can be found operating among the Premier League at the minute.

So, although such an ambitious transfer move could potentially take place for the Etihad faithful a few seasons down the line, once Pep Guardiola has fully established himself within the English top-flight perhaps - don’t expect Luis Suarez to be making a dramatic Premier League return any time soon…
