Manchester City's Champions League adventure has already meandered several times. Pep Guardiola's side might just be getting a little sick from all the turbulence in Europe's premier cup competition. A struggle away at Celtic and an embarrassment at the Camp Nou were followed by one of the all time great Champions League displays against Barcelona at the Etihad Stadium.

League form has been up and down for City, too. This season is yet to really catch alight as Guardiola continues to try and adapt his team. Outlandish tactics will always grab the headlines and Guardiola provided something along those lines yet again on Wednesday night.

Borussia Monchengladbach were always going to present a realistic challenge for the Citizens, though. Whatever the form of City, this game was one that looked tricky on paper. Monchengladbach's woe in the Bundesliga this season has not entirely translated to the Champions League, they were still a team that could cause the shaky Manchester City defence all sorts of bother.

Painful Beginnings

That's right, that's Claudio Bravo gazing as the ball goes past him once again.

Manchester City's defence conceded yet again as they went behind just after the 20 minute mark. Those defensive troubles are just not going away for City - who have not kept a clean sheet in 10 Champions League away matches.

Sergio Aguero evidently enjoyed David Silva's equaliser late in the first half.

Manchester City needed a breakthrough and the timing of the goal will have given Pep Guardiola a much easier team talk to give.

Red card mania

Borussia Monchengladbach's Lars Stindl looks dejected after being sent off

Lars Stindl saw red early in the first half, but it seemed as though Manchester City were not all that keen on having a numerical advantage.

Fernandinho promptly got himself sent off, which left a lot of ground to cover for the players who had bothered to remain on the field.

Penny for those thoughts

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola

Little to worry about for Pep, really. A draw confirmed qualification to the next phase of the competition for Manchester City and Guardiola's love affair with the Champions League continues.

Wrap him up

.

With qualification in the bag, its time for Manchester City to focus on Premier League dominance.

Sergio Aguero leaping around like this will have Citizens worried that he is due an injury lay-off, maybe he is, but its time for Guardiola to manage his squad through a hectic winter period.

He may even opt to rotate against Celtic...
