Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville urged Manchester City not to spend "just another £150million" in the summer to chase the Red Devils' glory, reports the Daily Mail.

The two rivals occupy the first and second position in the Premier League, with United all but assured the title, as they sit comfortably ahead of the Citizens by 15 points. But Neville insisted the Citizens not follow the impulse to spend recklessly in the summer, and instead, develop their own players.

“The temptation now would be to think they have to spend another £150million to redress the balance or to sack the manager to bring about changes,” said the ex-Red Devil.

“But that way is addictive: just look at Chelsea.”

The 38-year-old, who served as captain at Old Trafford for five years, continued to say that the soon-to-be-unseated Premier League champions are not in this position for lack of talent, but rather a sense of complacency.

“I think the feeling among the players last May may have been: ‘Thank goodness! We’ve climbed the mountain! We did it!’ But you have to learn to be serial winners, And United have done that over the years,” said Neville.

He added that the relentlessness which is Sir Alex Ferguson’s best weapon needs to be developed at the Etihad for long-term success.

“If City’s aim is to be truly great, they should match their rhetoric about building a long-term future and stick to the philosophy they now espouse.”

Roberto Mancini's side will make one push for league glory when the two Manchester rivals meet tonight at the Old Trafford.
