As reported by the Daily Mail this morning, Manchester City are the latest club to throw their hat into the ring for Virgil van Dijk, and are also interested in William Carvalho.
What's the word?
We discussed earlier this week that both Everton and Liverpool were in the market for Van Dijk and it appears Man City are the latest team to show interest in the impressive defender.
The Mail report that the Citizens are looking to Van Dijk as a long-term replacement for club legend Vincent Kompany and are said to have had scouts in attendance during his splendid performance in Southampton's 0-0 draw with Liverpool.
Not content with replacing one icon of City, Guardiola is also hoping to add Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho to his side in an attempt to fill the hole that will be left by Yaya Toure, according to the report.
Can you replace this duo?
If Van Dijk and Carvalho do arrive at the Etihad, they'll be under big pressure if they're expected to fill the boots of two Manchester City titans.
The two City players have 572 appearances between them in Manchester and have both won five major honours with the club.
Also both fans' favourites, they are two players who have had as big an influence as anyone in bringing City success over the last ten years.
Still, with both ageing, the reality is that they have to be replaced at some point. Who better to do it than two of Europe's most talked about players?
Both Carvalho and Van Dijk would likely command big fees but with that comes the quality required to make a positive impact on Guardiola's team.
Carvalho was a massive part of the success that Portugal found at Euro 2016, playing in the 1-0 win against France in the final.
Van Dijk is taking the Premier League by storm this season, receiving the kind of praise that was once upon a time heaped on Kompany himself.
Should the moves come off, both are well placed to live up to the billing and replace two club legends.
