The Serbia international joined the Sky Blues from Lazio back in 2010 with a reputation as one of Europe’s top defenders.
But despite winning two Premier League titles and the FA Cup and Capital One Cup, he hasn’t been a true success in England, often struggling to hold down a first-team berth under both Roberto Mancini and now Manuel Pellegrini.
Despite this, his reputation in Italy has remained high and now Roma are ready to offer him a route back to his former stomping ground.
Manager Rudi Garcia has made Kolarov his top target for the summer transfer window, and is hopeful that he can persuade the player to make the move and convince City to sell the 28-year-old.
Even though he is a key squad member, Pellegrini may look to offload the Eastern European star with Arsenal’s Bacary Sagna rumoured to be close to agreeing a free transfer to the Etihad Stadium.
Roma are also interested in Tottenham’s Sandro, yet the Lilywhites’ valuation of the burly midfielder may prevent a deal.
