Aleksandar Kolarov says that he’s relieved Yaya Toure is staying at Manchester City after a turbulent summer.
The Ivorian midfielder has been heavily linked with a big switch away from the Etihad Stadium in recent months, with reports indicating that he’s grown unhappy with his situation at the club.
City’s failure to properly acknowledge his 31st Birthday and a dispute surrounding requested time off to see his now deceased brother sparked talk of a move, which was fuelled by outbursts from his agent.
Paris Saint-Germain were seen as the most likely destination for the experienced star, while some speculation suggested that Manchester United and Chelsea were keen.
However it has now emerged that Toure will be staying, and Kolarov is glad that he’ll be lining up alongside him next season:
“I read in the paper what happened with him, so I’m happy he made the decision to stay with us,” he is quoted by the Manchester Evening News.
“He is a great player and a very important person for us in the dressing room.
“To be honest, I did not speak with him about what would happen. He has his personal [decisions] and he knows best. He has already met with the club so he knows what to do.
“I am happy that he stays with us.”
