Citizens chief Manuel Pellegrini appears to have lost patience with the England international of late, following a string of costly errors this season.
Hart’s last gaffe allowed Fernando Torres to net a late winner in their clash with Chelsea, which has led to his exclusion from the first-team ever since.
Despite still being thought of as one of the Premier League’s top stoppers, City are rumoured to be searching for players to replace him as their number one.
The latest keeper to have been linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium is Handanovic, who has been in fine form for Inter for some time.
The Slovenian international has been a key man for the Serie A side since his £10m arrival from Udinese last year.
His performances have been so impressive that the San Siro outfit are thought to value him at at least double the fee they paid just over 12 months ago.
City have not been deterred by this, and may launch a January raid for his signature.
Real Madrid and Malaga pair Iker Casillas and Willy Caballero are also on their radar.
Do Manchester City need a new goalkeeper? Or does Joe Hart just need some patience?
