Manchester City appear to be ahead of Chelsea in the fight for Monaco’s Radamel Falcao, after director of football Txiki Begiristain met with the player and his agent, according to reports from the Manchester Evening News.
The Colombian international only joined his current side last summer in a mega money switch from Atletico Madrid, but rumours indicate that he is already looking to move on after failing to settle on the Mediterranean coast.
Now it has emerged that Begiristain met with Falcao and his representatives on Tuesday night with an end of season transfer possibly on the agenda.
Chelsea have long been mooted as the most likely Premier League destination for the 28-year-old, but Manuel Pellegrini’s desire to add further to his attacking line may see the Sky Blues gazump their domestic rivals.
Falcao is thought of as one of European football’s top goal-getters, and is still a wanted man despite being sidelined with a serious knee injury.
City are one of the few clubs on the planet able to fund a deal for the South American, with the Etihad Stadium’s backers possessing the cash to lure him away from Russian-funded Monaco.
Falcao may be a possible replacement for Edin Dzeko, with some rumours suggesting that the Bosnian could be available for the right price this summer.
