Manchester City are ready to up their efforts to land Eliaquim Mangala from Porto, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

The French defender has been a target for the Sky Blues for some time, and they even came close to landing him January before a deadline day double swoop for him and team-mate Fernando collapsed.

Roma’s Mehdi Benatia has been mooted as the top target, but despite the Moroccan having made noises that he wants a switch to the Etihad Stadium the Sky Blues prefer the Portuguese giants’ young enforcer.

It is understood that the Premier League champions will ramp up their move for him over the coming weeks, with getting a new partner for captain Vincent Kompany a priority.

Meanwhile City will discuss Yaya Toure’s future with him when he returns from World Cup duty.

The Ivorian midfielder recently hit out at the club for refusing him compassionate leave at the end of the season to see his now deceased brother, Ibrahim.
