Sources in Portugal claim sporting director Txiki Begiristian was in Porto last night to see the defender score the winner in their Europa League clash with Sevilla.
Reports suggest that Begiristian hopes to conclude a deal for the 23-year-old ahead of moving to Manchester next season.
The former Standard Liege defender came close to joining City in the January transfer window, only to see the club’s double £38million move for Mangala and Porto teammate Fernando collapse on deadline day.
City remain interested in both players however, and are confident a deal can be struck that will see Mangala join the club at the end of the current campaign.
The news will come as a blow to Chelsea, who have expressed an interest in the France international themselves.
Mangala has won back-to-back titles in Portugal in only two full seasons, and has established himself as a leader on and off the club with the Portuguese giants.
The 6ft 2in defender has also proved a major threat from set pieces, managing seven goals last season, and five over the course of this campaign.
