Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has admitted that he is already lining up a number of targets ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Premier League champions failed to secure a single notable arrival during January, despite Mario Balotelli’s move to AC Milan.

This has fuelled speculation that the Sky Blues may spend big over the summer, especially if their lose the title to bitter rivals Manchester United.

Mancini admitted that he has been frustrated by a lack of big name signings, confessing that more work needs to be done:

"It's difficult in January to find really good players for us.” He is quoted by Sky Sports.

"Clubs don't want to sell now, but maybe they will in the summer. We need to work now, so that it is not like last year.”

The Italian went on to suggest that plans are already being drawn up and that he has targets in mind:

"Last year we didn't work well. It's important we start now. Now's the time we can close in on some good players for the summer.

"I have meetings with Txiki (Begiristain) every week and we talk about the summer.

"It will be easier to get players in the summer if we work hard, well and quickly now.

"You can't start looking at players in May because all the good ones are gone and it becomes impossible."

It is unclear as to whom City will bring in, but a striker is believed to be high on their wish list.

Napoli’s Edinson Cavani has been lined with a move to the Etihad Stadium, whilst rumours continue to circulate that the club may attempt to lure Liverpool’s red-hot forward Luis Suarez to the Eastlands.
