With Joleon Lescott, Martin Demichelis and Matija Nastasic all failing to convince as centre-back partner to Vincent Kompany this season, it’s believed sourcing a new central defender is Manuel Pellegrini’s leading transfer priority as we enter the final days of the January window.

One of the leading candidates remains Bayern Munich’s Dante. The Brazilian international’s agent remarked earlier this month that he wants his client’s future at the Allianz Arena decided by deadline day in the form of a new contract.

But with an extension deal yet to materialise, the 30 year-old’s potential availability has enticed Manchester United and Manchester City.

Since joining FCB from Borussia Monchengladbach in summer 2012, the 6 foot 2 defender has played a crucial role in the German giants being corronated Bundesliga and European champions. In 18 months with the Bavarians, Dante has claimed six pieces of silverware.

But having already reached his footballing peak, Bayern could be convinced to sell this month, especially considering they’re 13 points clear at the top of the German table and the South American will have just two years left of his current contract in the summer.

It would still take a big fee on Manchester City’s part however, probably around the £20million mark, and Manchester United will be keen to rival any bid.
