Manchester city continue their quest to finally make a significant impact on the Champions league with what should be a routine group game on Wednesday night against Sevilla.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men go into the home leg of their double-header as strong favourites, against a side that finished fifth in La Liga last season.

Sevilla have made a slow start this term and are currently languishing 13th in their domestic table. Despite this, the Andalucia-based outfit have some dangerous players in their ranks who will be keen to exploit any complacency from the hosts.

Here are three of the Europa League holders' potential threats...

Kevin Gameiro

The little Frenchman is currently the preferred centre-forward for Los Rojiblancos ahead of Italian marksman Ciro Immobile and former Bilbao battering ram, Fernando Llorente.

Gameiro’s game is built around pace and  his ability with the ball at his feet so he is likely to retain his place in the side for the trip to Eastlands where his team’s best chances are likely to come on the counter attack.

The 28-year-old has four goals to his name so far this season and has already netted in the group stage. He has an excellent scoring record throughout his career and has continued his fine form in Spain after his move from PSG.

He is likely to operate as a lone front man with support coming from the flanks. Despite this, his energy levels will ensure City’s centre backs are kept busy.

Yevhen Konoplyanka

Acquiring Konoplyanka in the summer from Dinipro was seen as a bit of a coup for Sevilla. The Ukrainian was on the radar of several top clubs around Europe including Liverpool and Arsenal.

It was also reported that Jose Mourinho scouted the player during the recent international break. The 26-year-old is a pacy winger who gets his fair share of goals and is already a three time Ukrainian player of the year.

Konoplyanka is also a bit of a dead ball specialist, capable of finding the target from a free kick or delivering a telling cross. The winger also scored on his Champions League debut this year against Borussia Monchengladbach.

Despite his eye for goal, he is by no means a guaranteed starter as Coach Unai Emery eases him into life at his new club.

With Sevilla likely to play on the break in Manchester, the summer signing is sure to play some part and will represent a potent threat.

Grzegorz Krychowiak

The Pole will not necessarily pose much of a danger to the City rearguard but it is crucial he is on form if the Spanish outfit are to cause an upset this week.

He will be key to stifling the home side’s creative forces in his defensive midfield role. While the 25-year-old will be glad that David Silva and Sergio Aguero are not available, he will still need to contend with the likes of De Bruyne, Toure and Sterling.

The former Stade Reims man will not be daunted though, as he has quickly become a key man since his arrival in Andalucia.

He was one of only five players not from Real Madrid or Barcelona to feature in the La Liga Team of the Year last season, another being City’s own Nicolas Otamendi.

A Polish international since the age of 18, Krychowiak has now developed into an all-action defensive midfielder who is comfortable on the ball.
