Real Madrid star Sami Khedira could snub the advances of both Manchester United and Chelsea to sign an extended contract at the Bernabeu, according to talkSPORT.
Reports coming from Spanish newspaper Marca claim Real Madrid are ready to offer the German midfielder a new long term deal in order to stave off interest from the Premier League big guns.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has been in the market for a new defensive midfielder since returning to Stamford Bridge, and worked with Khedira during his time at Real Madrid.
Meanwhile Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat at home to Everton once again highlighted their need for reinforcements in the middle of the park.
Khedira is currently out injured for the long term, after suffering a serious knee injury while on international duty.
He is already under contract at the Bernabeu until 2015, but Carlo Ancelotti sees him as integral to his future plans at the Bernabeu, and therefore hopes to tie him down to a new long term deal.
The news will likely bring a mixed reaction from Real Madrid fans, who have endured a fractious relationship with the German star as well as the Spanish journalists.
Khedira made a rant against both last season, saying: “I’m not a Spanish player, I did not cost a lot of money and I am one of Mourinho’s disciples.”
