David Moyes has sent scouts to watch the French midfielder in action – who can also represent England after five years of residency.
Schneiderlin has been outstanding for the Saints in the two years since they returned to the Premier League, and Moyes believes he could be the man to fill their troublesome holding midfield position.
Moyes is set to be given a huge transfer kitty to rebuild Manchester United this summer, and has prioritized the signings of two centre backs, a left back, and a holding midfield player.
He has confessed he will have to be clever in his transfer business if United fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League, as is currently looking the case.
Moyes is also looking towards younger players with Premier League experience, and has been linked with Schneiderlin’s Southampton teammates Luke Shaw and Adam Lallana.
24-year-old Schneiderlin has three years remaining on his current Saints contract, and the club would not allow him to leave for anything less than £15million.
