With the summer comes the obligatory clear-out for some clubs.

This time around there will be new managers in place for Manchester City, Chelsea and a chance for Jurgen Klopp to sign his own players, but another club is anticipating a new managerial arrival and it means Manchester United will likely be re-building.

Since Sir Alex Ferguson stepped down in 2013 after an illustrious, never-to-be-repeated reign as Man United boss, the club has failed to rise to the occasion.

The appointment of fellow Scot, David Moyes, was an absolute disaster in many respects and although United reached the Champions League quarter-finals where they lost to holders Bayern Munich, they really did struggle under Moyes with heavy defeats to rivals and disappointing league form hallmarks of a dark period. After it was mathematically confirmed that the team would not be in the Champions League for the 2014/15 season, Moyes was sacked on April 22, 2014 with the club lying 7th in the Premier League.

Turning to the experienced Louis Van Gaal, United thought that the return to better days was just around the corner. Or so they hoped. To date, the club appear to be no further along, and although they qualified for the Champions League, they didn't stay in it very long this term. The style of play, the playing individuals out of position, the inconsistent form and his attitude to his players has meant that LVG is an unwanted man, and change is expected.

Manchester United's reputation is among the highest in the world, but with players deciding against joining the famous club, you know there are problems.

And so, as another managerial merry-go-round is about to start and Jose Mourinho is all but putting his feet up on the manager's desk, a new era dawns, and with that comes new players in... and deadwood out.

Here are FIVE United players, other than the much talked about Memphis Depay, who should be looking over their shoulders...

Marouane Fellaini

Signed from Everton by Moyes - although no-one really knows why - Fellaini is clearly not a fans' favourite, and certainly is not a United player in any way shape or form. He's an alternative threat and has his qualities - he is a Belgium international after all - but he falls short in many areas, and will be one of the first shown the door by the Portuguese boss, or whomever takes charge.

Phil Jones

Phil Jones

A lot was expected of Jones when he signed from Blackburn Rovers, but it simply hasn't worked out. His constant injuries have hindered an otherwise promising career at Old Trafford, but Mourinho may decide to bring in better players like Raphael Varane or even John Stones, and that would limit his first team chances.

Adnan Januzaj

Unlikely to stay after returning from a brief loan spell to Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund. A disappointing time in Germany and lack of opportunities in the future means that it is probably better for the winger to salvage his career elsewhere.

Juan Mata

Mata

Another to see the revolving door of Old Trafford spinning on his way out. Mata played for Mourinho at Chelsea and it was 'The Special One' who sold him on after questioning his work rate. Mata will be hoping it isn't Jose walking through the door in June.

Even the Argentine is planning his escape back to his boyhood Estudiantes - albeit in a few years' time. The 26 year old joined United for £16m from Sporting Lisbon in 2014, but injury this year has hampered his game time. His heart clearly is not in Manchester and he has admitted to missing family and home, so an exit would suit everyone.
