Many figures in the football world have been giving their opinion on Jose Mourinho’s start to life at Manchester United, and Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira believes that the Portuguese coach may be struggling with the type of players in his ranks.

The retired midfielder, who played under Mourinho at Inter Milan, said in an interview with RMC radio station that the United boss is failing to stamp down his authority on players who are not afraid to speak their mind to him.

In terms of results, it could be much better for the Red Devils as they are already 13 points off the title race after 14 games and they are nine adrift of the top four after winning just two of their last 11 league fixtures.

The team are failing to turn draws into wins having taking just a point in six of their top-flight matches so far in the campaign. When asked to give his thoughts on Mourinho, Vieira said:

“I don't think he's changed his philosophy or tactics. I think he's got the same approach, because he's always about confrontation, he's the boss.

“Perhaps his players aren't as receptive, that the generation has completely changed. At Inter, we were quite an experienced group and he handled it well.

“The problem is almost certainly that there is a new generation and the message does not go through as well because there are players who perhaps stand up to him and perhaps aren't afraid to say what they think. That makes things more difficult.”

Last season’s capitulation at Chelsea resulted in Mourinho getting the sack in December, leaving the club hovering just above the relegation zone.

Rumours rumbled that the former Real Madrid boss had lost the dressing room, and when that happens, there is only one direction to go in - out the exit door.
