Borussia Dortmund are keen to re-sign Shinji Kagawa from Manchester United, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

The Japanese international only moved to Old Trafford from the Westfalenstadion last year, but is already thought to be ready to leave.

After playing a relatively limited role under Sir Alex Ferguson last term, Kagawa’s chances of regular first-team action under new chief David Moyes look even slimmer.

The Scot is believed to be unconvinced by the playmaker, despite being in need of creativity in the centre of the pitch.

The 24-year-old has made a few brief first-team forays, but has often been deployed on the wing, which has prevented him from playing in, arguably, his most effective area of the field.

This has led to speculation that Dortmund may move to re-sign Kagawa, who is still highly rated at the club.

According to an anonymous source, their manager Jurgen Klopp would be thrilled to have the Asian superstar back in a yellow shirt.

“Jurgen would love to have Kagawa back at the club and had made it clear the door is always open for him,” he said.

“Shinji was quite emotional when he left and said he didn’t want to go but couldn’t turn down the chance of playing for United. Now it seems to have turned sour, he would be welcomed back with open arms.”

A swap deal involving Neven Subotic has been mooted, but the same source says that such a move will not happen.

“United can forget about Subotic. When it was put to the powers that be, it was rejected out of hand," he added.

“Klopp doesn’t want to lose him. He’s only 24, despite all his experience, and is an integral part of the team."

Would David Moyes be making a mistake if he sells Shinji Kagawa?
