Chelsea are set to make a January move for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney, according to the Daily Mail.

The Blues had a bid rejected for the England forward in the summer but will come back with a fresh £30million bid after Rooney’s future was put in doubt due to failure to agree a new contract at Old Trafford.

The 28 year old has been crucial for United so far this season, especially with Robin van Persie’s constant injury worries, and so the Red Devils will be desperate to keep hold of their main man.

If Rooney has rejected the latest contract off though, David Moyes may have no alternative but to allow him to leave sooner rather than later in order to bring in a replacement.

Chelsea are in desperate need of a striker with their current trio of Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba failing to hit the heights of their potential this season.

The Blues will need Rooney to demand a move in order to get their man though, as Moyes and co have continuously stated that they will not sell.
