A new season does bring about new players, new expectations and renewed belief that Manchester United can win their first title since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson, well for the Old Trafford at least.

And one of those new players, Bastian Schweinsteiger, believes Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal is the man to bring the glory days back to Old Trafford.

The German World Cup winner said: "First of all, I think it is not easy to win a title in the Premier League, as you have really good teams here.

"But if everyone works hard together, and believes in each other, I think there is a chance to win the title.

"We know what we can do and bring on the pitch, so we have to be convinced about ourselves, and I think we are, but we have to work a lot."

The former Bayern Munich man is clearly well aware of the difficulties of winning the Premier League and also admits there is a lot of work for United to do, but you would have to argue that the early signs are good.

Two consecutive 1-0 wins to get the season under way, albeit in unspectacular fashion, will have pleased van Gaal. However, the fact of the matter is that it is two games into the season and maximum points on the board, and that is the important thing. Van Gaal knows that, at this early stage, it is points on the board that is more important.

The Dutchman himself admitted that it has been a slow start whilst his new team gets up to speed, but he also believes that his side is "progressing,"  and admits that he thought the 1-0 win at Villa Park was an improvement on their opening day win against Spurs.

Of course, van Gaal will say that, but in truth his side have been winning ugly and that is the trademark  of any good title winning team. It's always important to win when you're not playing well, which is exactly what United are doing at the moment.

And with exciting players like Memphis Depay, Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney, Adnan Januzaj and Ashley Young in the team, it will only be a matter of time until it starts to click at Old Trafford and the Reds continue winning, but start playing much better too.

That is a scary thought for their title rivals and you would have to say that Schweinsteiger is right. If they do apply themselves well they are well in with a good chance of winning the title this season.

There is a long way to go, though, and there will be question marks over Rooney as the sole striker, who has had a very quiet start to the season - without a goal in either of his two matches so far. It remains to be seen whether or not just Rooney up front is enough to win the title , but if they keep keeping clean sheets they may not need to get another striker in.

With a possible new striker arriving to support Rooney along with the players he has already brought in this summer, you would have to argue that United do have a good chance of winning the title this season.
