Manchester United have made a “genius” decision to get Louis van Gaal on board according to Ronald de Boer, who believes that his compatriot will be a massive success in England.
The current Oranje chief was named as David Moyes’ permanent successor shortly before jetting off to the World Cup to coach his nation, and will make his switch proper when the tournament ends.
Van Gaal is one of European football’s most iconic coaches after silverware filled spells with Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich in a glittering career.
De Boer – a hero in his homeland – believes that LVG’s appointment is a great move on the part of United, who are destined for great times under the 62-year-old’s guidance:
“It was a genius move,” he told talkSPORT.
“Van Gaal is the best coach I ever worked with. He is the best chance for a team to have success.
“Nobody really believed in this [Netherlands] team, but I said, ‘if one man can change this team, it is Louis van Gaal’. It is the same for Manchester United.
“In the long term you will have success with him, but do you have the patience? He could win the Premier League title, or maybe the Champions League, but it is not really realistic, of course.”
Van Gaal has already been on the transfer offensive at United, bringing in Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw for close to £60m.
