Van Gaal’s proximity to the Netherlands’ finest players likely increases the chance of players such as Memphis Depay following him back to Manchester.
Depay is everything United hoped to be getting when they signed Ashley Young. At 20 years of age, he is a genuinely exciting prospect for Dutch football. He is fast, a fantastically tricky dribbler, and is both a creator and scorer of great goals.
He has a typical Dutch swagger in the way he graces the field which would probably not go amiss at in United’s fragile side. The lack of penetration from everywhere in midfield was quite striking last season, and Depay would go some distance to solve this problem.
Having netted 12 and assisted eight this season, Depay would contribute both goals and creativity, and can provide the type of threat that only Adnan Januzaj possesses in their current squad.
