Manchester United will be a success next season with Robin van Persie and Louis van Gaal working in tandem, according to former Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt.
The Dutch international chief was recently announced as the Red Devils’ new manager after the failed tenure of David Moyes, and will make his switch to Old Trafford a proper one when the World Cup ends.
With van Persie a key member of his Oranje side, van Gaal is expected to hand his compatriot a major role as the focal point of his new team in a 4-3-3 formation, and the pair are known to have an excellent relationship.
Kuyt – a Liverpool star for six years and current member of the Netherlands’ 23-man squad in Brazil – believes that the two will work wonders together, which he admits comes as a blow given his ties with Merseyside:
“I think Robin van Persie is an amazing player. He has shown that at United. Unfortunately, he was injured too many times this season.” He is quoted by The Mirror.
“But I’m sure, with Van Gaal and Robin together, great things are going to happen with Man Unitedd … unfortunately! Van Gaal is an open style of manager. He has a clear idea of what footballers need in training and also outside of training.
“And if you want something to change, his door is open – but you also have to have a very good argument!
“He treats players as adults. He is a very experienced coach and we are very lucky to have him.”
