Rio Ferdinand has patched up his differences with Sir Alex Ferguson after his refusal to wear the kick it out t-shirt placed the pair at loggerheads.

After calling the defender an “embarrassment” the Manchester United manager appears to have done a U-turn and the club are set to offer the player a new contract. Despite stating the defender would be “dealt with” Fergie now claims the row was down to a simple “communication problem.”

Stating that the player has different injury issues to that of similar aged members of the squad Ferguson went on to claim Rio could continue for “another two or three years.”

Elaborating on the situation further Fergie commented that "He is not as quick as he was but that is not a big problem because his experience is important.” Despite Fergie claiming that he did not even know the defenders contract was nearly up he took the time to reiterate the club’s policy of one year contracts and explained that they would monitor the contact situation “as the season progressed.”

The proposed contract would see the 34 year old defender take a ”significant pay cut” with this and indeed the length of the contract coming as no surprise to the player or his agent who are also expecting offers from MLS clubs and even surprise offers from Premier League clubs. Despite these the veteran is expected to hold preliminary talks with the club he has spent the last ten seasons at with according to New Today, a  “mutually lucrative deal” between the player and club expected.
