The Louis van Gaal era at Manchester United well and truly kicked off last week with the signings of Ander Hererra and Luke Shaw. Nearly £60 million was splashed as the rebuilding project at Old Trafford got well underway.

After their performances so far, interest has inevitably intensified in many of Colombia's stars. With United still in the market for several new additions, it would be remiss of van Gaal to not consider at least a few of Jose Pekerman's side.

As one of the surprise packages of the World Cup so far, Colombia have become many neutrals' adopted nation due to their vibrant attacking play. Even without star striker Radamel Falcao, the South Americans have brushed all aside so far and will look to upset the hosts on Friday night.

Bearing this in mind, here are FIVE Colombian stars that United fans would love to see at Old Trafford next season.

JAMES RODRIGUEZ

Well, who else were we going to start with?!

In the absence of Falcao, Rodriguez has stepped up as Colombia's star man and is currently the top scorer in the competition with five goals. The 22 year old has found the back of the net in every match so far.

Just in case you've been living under a rock for the last week, here is a reminder of Rodriguez's casual goal of the tournament contender.

In the wake of such astounding performances, media speculation linking the player to United and Real Madrid has intensified. Even with the array of attacking talent already at van Gaal's disposal, many fans of the Red Devils want to see the Colombian at Old Trafford next season, not matter the cost.

JUAN CUADRADO

Juan Cuadrado

Despite insisting that he is happy at Fiorentina, speculation continues to surround Cuadrado. Barcelona appear to be the media's favourites for the 26 year old's signature but United continue to be linked.

The Colombian racked up eleven goals and five assists in Serie A and has continued this explosive form this summer in Brazil. With United short of genuine quality and pace out wide, van Gaal should seriously consider splashing the case on Cuadrado as part of his rebuilding project.

JACKSON MARTINEZ

Jackson Martinez

FC Porto's talismanic striker seems to have usurped Teofilo Gutierrez to the starting berth for his country after his double against Japan. The 27 year old hasn't stopped scoring since moving to Portugal, with twenty goals in twenty seven appearances in the league this season.

The striker performed a smart turn before dispatching his second against the Japanese.

Despite this blistering form, the latest reports suggest that Porto are willing to let Martinez go if they receive a fee around the £30 million mark. With Robin van Persie struggling with injuries in recent times and Wayne Rooney preferring a deeper role, the 27 year old could be viewed as the man to add greater firepower to United next season.

FREDY GUARIN

Even after signing Ander Herrera, van Gaal must surely still be in the market for at least one more midfield recruit. One of many names linked to United, Guarin is a player that has been attracting interest from the Premier League for some time.

In the latest media reports, Inter Milan are believed to be willing to accept offers in the region of £15 million for the 28 year old. Although United fans would undoubtedly prefer a midfielder in the ilk of Bastian Schweinsteiger or Toni Kroos, van Gaal may move for Guarin as the more than capable budget alternative.

CAMILO ZUNIGA

Camilo Zuniga

Very much a modern full back, Zuniga has impressed in Colombia's attacking play so far this summer. Quick and physically strong, the 28 year old has offered a constant outlet whilst remaining efficient in his defensive duties.

Zuniga missed much of the domestic campaign with Napoli with a persistent knee problem but has returned in impressive fashion with his country this summer. Capable of fulfilling a role in central midfield and out on the wing, the 28 year old could be viewed as a potentially reliable and versatile addition by van Gaal this summer.
