David Moyes’ tenure as Manchester United manager not only highlighted the Glaswegian’s unsuitability for the role, it also brought to light and reinforced the idea that a number of players in the squad are simply not good enough.
United were always set for a busy summer after failing to adequately prepare last year for the current campaign, and while Moyes will take a lot of the blame for United’s finish this season, some of it can be apportioned to the players, of whom many failed to pull their weight for Alex Ferguson’s successor.
Despite what may be said about United as a club, this is a team who are in transition. They’ll need to move on the deadwood and address the issue of an altogether ageing squad. There’s no doubt that whoever is chosen as the next manager will have his work cut out.
These are the five players who should be moved on during the summer.
