Tonight, Manchester United face Zorya Luhansk at Old Trafford in the Europa League (kick-off 8.05pm), but you'd certainly be forgiven for not knowing too much about the visitors.

Indeed, whilst the likes of Shakhtar Donetsk, Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk and Dynamo Kyiv are relatively well-known outside of the Ukrainian Premier League, the same can't necessarily be said for the Slavutych Arena outfit.

That's always a cause for concern if you're a club like Manchester United; they may be European minnows, but underestimating an opponent due to a lack of knowledge can often lead to an almighty upset.

Don't get us wrong, we at FootballFanCast expect the Red Devils to claim all three points this evening, especially considering they're already behind in Europa League Group A after losing to Feyenoord.

But a quick rundown of what Zorya are all about certainly wouldn't hurt - and should create a better context for watching tonight's game.

With that in mind, here are FIVE things you need to know about Zorya...

HOW THEY QUALIFIED

Incredibly unique circumstances lead to Zorya's involvement in the group stages. They actually finished fourth in the Ukrainian Premier League last season, which would have earned them a spot in the third qualifying round - the same stage of the competition West Ham entered this year.

However, the aforementioned Dnipro, who finished third last term, were handed a one-season ban from European competitions by UEFA back in March, due to breaches of financial regulations (the long and short is that they ran out of money to pay their players), which allowed Zorya to take their place in the group stages.

EUROPEAN RECORD

zorya-record

Zorya's European record is intriguing if a little underwhelming. Back during the 1973/74 campaign, in the days of the USSR, they featured in the European Cup. However, that was the club's only showing on the continental stage for over 40 years. They eventually re-emerged in 2014 and have been involved in the Europa League for three straight seasons, including the current one. They certainly held their own against Fenerbahce earlier this month, claiming a home draw against the Turkish giants.

FORM THIS SEASON

upl-table

Whilst Zorya might not carry much weight in Europe, they've been going strong in the Ukrainian Premier League so far this season. In fact, they've lost just three times in 17 fixtures across all competitions and are currently second in the league table - behind only UPL powerhouses Shakhtar Donetsk. They'll enter tonight's game high in confidence after beating Dynamo Kyiv two weekends ago and Vorskla (both by a one-goal margin) last Saturday.

THE MANAGER

The name Yuriy Vernydub might ring a bell. The former defender-come-midfielder finished his playing days with Zenit St. Petersburg, winning the domestic cup and featuring twice in the UEFA Cup with the Russian outfit back during the 1999/00 campaign.

Vernydub served as assistant manager at Zorya for two years before succeeding Anatoly Chantsev in the dugout in 2011. He's held down the job ever since, initially steering them clear of relegation before overseeing two sturdy mid-table finishes and consecutive standings of fourth place. Zorya have improved or maintained their final league position every year under Vernydub.

THE DANGER MAN

Zorya's strike force isn't exactly firing on all cylinders this season but their real match-winning quality lies in midfield. Indeed, Oleksandr Karavayev and Zeljko Ljubenovic have been responsible for seven of Zorya's 16 league goals this season and the latter set up Dmytro Grechyshkin for that all-important strike against Fenerbahce in Gameweek One. Whilst Karaveyev offers goals from the flank, Ljubenovic is the star man - operating as a No.10 just behind the centre-forward.
