Manchester United’s hopes of signing Sporting Lisbon ace William Carvalho will all depend on whether former star Paul Pogba signs for Real Madrid or not, according to the London Evening Standard.
Reports in March suggested Carvalho had finalised a £37million move to Old Trafford, but it is now thought Real Madrid are front runners for his signature.
However, reports suggest Los Blancos manager Carlo Ancelotti would prefer to sign Juventus wonderkid Paul Pogba, which is where the France international reportedly has his heart set on going.
But it has also been claimed that Carvalho’s agent Jorge Mendes is being pressurised in to agreeing a deal for his player to sign for the Bernabau club by Los Blancos officials.
United have been linked with a move to bring Pogba back to Old Trafford, but are confident of securing the services of first choice target Carvalho, which should open the door for Pogba’s dream move to Real Madrid.
Either way, Man United’s new boss is expected to be handed a £200m transfer war chest this summer and one of Carvalho or Pogba are expected to require a large chunk of that if they are to arrive in Manchester.
