Last night's Manchester Derby may have lacked the intensity and quality of the first instalment we received this season, but it was still an entertaining League Cup clash between two sides who came to win.Indeed, Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola both fielded weakened yet competitive line-ups and every player involved put in a committed performance - even if goal-mouth action was rather limited throughout the ninety minutes.Juan Mata's solitary strike proved to be the winner, popping up inside the box to calmly curl the ball past Willy Caballero on the 54th-minute mark and provide some form of redemption amid a turbulent week in the life of Mourinho.City, meanwhile, just couldn't get going and finished a match without a shot on target for the first time since 2012. And if you liked that shocking stat, we've got four more for you to have emerged from United's 1-0 win at Old Trafford.

Garcia the pass master

19-year-old Aleix Garcia made his fourth appearance for Manchester City last night and although he didn't exactly grab the match by the scruff of the neck in midfield, the youngster produced an impressive display - particularly on the ball.

Indeed, he completed the most successful passes, a staggering 90, of any player on either side. That suggests he's got a future big future under Pep Guardiola, although elimination from the League Cup could limit his game time this season. Courtesy of Whoscored.

Mata importance continues

An interesting statistic emerged from Manchester United's 4-0 defeat to Chelsea (above), regarding the unexpected importance of attacking midfielder Juan Mata.

The Spaniard was issued a rare start yesterday evening and once again proved how influential he can be for Jose Mourinho by scoring the solitary strike of the game. Incredibly, only Wayne Rooney has been responsible for more United goals since Mourinho sold Mata to the club in January 2014.

Man City hoodoo

Man City may be amid an era of superiority over their local rivals in the Premier League, but they haven't had such luck in the cup competitions - most particularly at Old Trafford. Indeed, last night made it seven straight cup defeats at United's ground and increased their winless run at Old Trafford to eight.

Back to 2012

Manchester City have now gone six games without a win, the worst win-less run of Pep Guardiola's managerial career and City's worst for over four years. As shown by Squawka (below), there's been plenty of change at the Etihad Stadium since then.

It was also the first time City failed to register a shot on target since 2012.
