Continuity is key

Sir Alex Ferguson

Under Ferguson, a proven winning formula had long since been established amongst the management team. When the legendary Glaswegian retired, this backroom team initially remained.

But instead of retaining this element of continuity, Moyes decided to bring in his own support staff from Goodison Park. Those which had figured so prominently in the successful Ferguson era were ousted and considered surplus to requirements.

It was clear from this move that Moyes was attempting to assert his own authority and ideas on a club that had been heavily shaped by his predecessor. But in hindsight, too much was changed and United should look to maintain a degree of continuity in respect to the support staff through their next appointment.
