At one point this season it looked at though Marouane Fellaini was salvaging his reputation by slotting into the Manchester United midfield and putting in some quietly effective displays.

Things haven't been so rosy for the Belgian lately, however, with his performance against Zorya Luhansk in the Europa League being criticised from all quarters.

Mourinho's men looked sluggish at Old Trafford and took 69 minutes to break down the plucky Ukrainian side through that man, Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Fellaini appeared to be playing the role of scapegoat for the Red Devils, with a series of clumsy challenges and lack of quality inciting the wrath of United fans...

After winning 4-1 against Leicester without the afro-haired midfielder last weekend, a number of fans were bewildered as to why Fellaini was preferred over Ander Herrera - who played well against the Foxes - as well as Michael Carrick, Morgan Schneiderlin and even the ostracised Bastian Schweinsteiger.

There was even a musical number bemoaning Fellaini's abject display, with the lyrics for White Stripes 'Hotel Yorba' switched the accommodate the Belgian.
