After yet another loss in Manchester United's stop start season, it has become apparent that there is a desperate need for change.

Though Louis van Gaal tried himself to start this by selling Javier Hernandez, Danny Welbeck, Darren Fletcher, Jonny Evans, Robin van Persie, Rafael and Nani, the squad is looking in need of not only an overhaul, but an injection of youth, mixed with talented players who can make a difference. LVG sold three of his strikers who could pull him out of games, and bought in no other match-winners - aside from rookie, Anthony Martial.

As a Manchester United fan, it pains me to say that Wayne Rooney is no longer the great forward of his youth (though I'm sure many non-Man United fans realised this years ago). The team needs a youthful, experienced striker who Rooney can link up with and take the burden of scoring the goals. That is what the team is desperately craving, a goalscorer. Martial does fit the bill, but he is being shaped for the future, while Memphis Depay on the other hand is quickly turning into this season's Angel di Maria.

Another area that the team desperately need to improve is the centre-back position. Phil Jones has not reached the world-class quality many hoped that he would, often getting injured. He shouldn't necessarily be sold, but is definitely not a first-team starter. Though Van Gaal bought in Marcos Rojo as cover, he too has got injured too often.

Manchester United fans are desperate for a player or two to fill that void left by Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand. They were both just a few of the leaders within the team, something that has been severely missed in Van Gaal's reign. Fans would love the club to sign talented proven youngsters like Aymeric Laporte, Raphael Varane, Matthias Ginter, Marquinhos or anybody of that ilk who could fill that role. Somebody with the same solidity of Steve Bruce, Garry Pallister, Ferdinand and Vidic, but like those four, a player that will stay in the team for years to come and make the role his own.

Next the midfield. Morgan Schneiderlin looks to be a good signing, but is in need of an attacking player, much like Paul Scholes was to Roy Keane. Whether this be Rooney who fills in this void, or Adnan Januzaj, the Red Devils are in desperate need of something.

When you consider that other than Depay and Di Maria, there have been no consistent wingers in the team, there is a need for that too. Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young are now in their 30s, Januzaj isn't first-team quality. Without a good new winger, United cannot hope to move forward successfully.

Though there are some names within the squad that will stay, like Chris Smalling, Luke Shaw, David de Gea, the team are really in need of an injection of talent to fight for future trophies and to be the best team in the world again.
