Juan Mata believes that new Manchester United team-mate Ander Herrera will be a success at Old Trafford.
The £30m arrival made his debut as the Red Devils battered LA Galaxy 7-0 last night in a pre-season friendly, setting up two goals for Ashley Young.
Herrera has been a long-term target for United, who came close to sealing his arrival last year under David Moyes, before a potential deal collapsed in a botched transfer window for the then Premier League champions.
But new chief Louis van Gaal got the silky playmaker through the door as his first signing, and Mata believes that his compatriot will be a big hit at the club:
“He did great. I know him very well from our days with the Spanish national youth teams and he was very good (against the Galaxy).” He is quoted by the Daily Star.
“I am very happy for him. We have a good connection on and off the pitch and I think he will give us a lot of good things this season.”
United showcased their new 3-4-1-2 formation in the big win, and Mata believes that the side are adapting well to it:
” I think we had a good understanding of the new system and the football the manager wanted us to play.
“It was a good game for us. The manager wants us to play quickly with the ball in the middle, try to look for options and also play with width as well. That’s what we’ll keep trying to do.”
