Manchester United star Juan Mata has called for David Moyes to play him in a more central role rather than on the wing.
The Spanish ace became the Red Devils’ club record signing in January, as he completed a shock £37.1m move to Old Trafford from Chelsea.
Despite being most adept in the ‘number 10’ role, Mata has been fielded in a wide position in Moyes’ 4-4-2 and 4-2-3-1 formations since making the move, with the Scot shuffling his options in a bid to field him alongside Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie.
Although the 25-year-old is happy to do a job for the team, he says that he would prefer to be playing away from the flanks:
“I love to play between the lines. Right now I am playing on the right but to honest I don’t see myself as a proper winger. I like to play between the lines as a No. 10.” He is quoted by The Metro.
“[When I] come inside, that is where I feel comfortable to play, to keep in touch with the ball because I love to play in possession and with the ball.”
Moyes has been criticised for his use of Mata by some supporters, who have already called for the silky playmaker to be used in a more pivotal role.
