Arsenal star Theo Walcott has urged Manchester United’s Luke Shaw not to rush his recovery process as he looks to come back from a horror leg injury.

The former Southampton man is expected to miss the bulk of the season after a robust challenge from PSV Eindhoven’s Hector Moreno in Champions League action left him with a double leg fracture.

After a difficult debut season after his mega money move to United, Shaw was showing signs of justifying his early career hype, which makes the injury blow all the more frustrating for the player and his club.

It’s estimated that the issue will leave the 20-year-old out of action for six months, threatening his spot in England’s EURO 2016 squad, but Walcott, who has had more than his fair share of fitness set-backs through the years, has warned his compatriot that it could take much longer to fully recover:

“It is important not to put a time frame on it,” he is quoted by the Manchester Evening News. “I was 11 months in the end and it is when you are ready.

“Calum Wilson has done his (ligaments), Luke Shaw has broken his leg.

“I think it is important for everyone to know they (experts) say six months, but you have to give people time and they will come back when they are ready.

“It could be six months if you are lucky, or nine, 10, 12 months.

“It takes time to come back to the same level from before you were out.

“I have worked hard to get where I am and I am happy.

“You just think you can go out there and do it, but after training sometimes you think, ‘that was tough.’

“You just have to wait your time.”
