Manchester United have confirmed the £14million arrival of Ajax defender Daley Blind.
The 24-year-old has put pen-to-paper on a four year deal with an option for a further year at Old Trafford.
After impressing for Louis Van Gaal’s Holland side at the World Cup in Brazil earlier this summer, Blind has been linked with a move away from the Amsterdam Arena and particularly with a move to link up again with his old Ajax and Holland boss.
Blind told Man United’s official website: “It is a real honour to sign for Manchester United.
“I have been at Ajax since I was seven years old and I will always have very fond memories of the club and of my there.
“Louis van Gaal is tremendously talented coach, I have worked with him at Ajax and also for the Netherlands national team and I cannot wait to work with him at the biggest club in the world.”
And Louis van Gaal echoed Blind’s comments, expressing his delight at being able to sign a player who knows exactly what it’s like to play under him and in the philosophy is so desperate to make successful at the former Premier League champions.
“I am delighted Daley has signed for the club,” he admitted.
“He is a very intelligent and versatile footballer than can play in many positions. Daley is a great reader of the game, he has played under my philosophy over a number of years and he will be a great addition to the team.”
It is believed Blind has been brought in to play as a defensive midfielder, but also to help out in the defence depending on the formation van Gaal decides to play.
